This section reminded me of the adult memoir I read. In the adult memoir I read, the teacher came into student teaching extremely overwhelmed while also feeling like she was on top of the world. She soon found out how difficult it was to change students' mindsets and views on school much less the subject she taught. Although it seemed like a daunting task she still did everything in her power to change the students mindsets and open them up to the world of reading, writing, and literature. The adult memoir I read really left me feeling empowered and hopeful that I can make a difference in at least one child's life as a future teacher. :)

Each week the students in my placement have to complete a spelling packet that includes activities related to their spelling words. I am always interested in learning new ways to incorporate more than one subject area into an activity. For one of the daily activites in their spelling packet this week, the students had to write the fraction of vowels in each spelling words. For example, one of their spelling words was center. The correct fraction for the number of vowels in the word center is 2/6. The students then had to simplfy the fraction if possible. I love how my students are practicing the spelling of the word, reviewing vowels, reviewing factions, and reviewing simplfying fractions all in one activity. My placement teacher does an excellent job of incorporating multiple subjects into one assignment and connect each subject's topics to the other!
