Flecher Ch. 5 I really connected with Fletcher when he discussed having passion in your writing. My best writings were about stories and situations I was passionate about. When I was brainstorming about how to write my memoir, I thought about what I wanted my reader to really understand about me after reading my memoir. The main point I stressed in my memoir was how passionate I am about helping students whose home lives are tough. I wanted the reader to really get inside my head and understand how I felt at each point in the story. I feel as if I achieved this well because I included thoughts that went through my head as well as clear descriptions of what was going on in the classroom. In my opinion, why would you write about something if you weren’t really passionate about it? Of course that is if you aren’t taking a standardized writing assessment J

This week in my placement I took the idea of creating poetry in a powerpoint from class and created my own. My students were learning about poetry and I picked Haiku poems for my lesson. I created a template on powerpoint for them to use in creating their own Haiku. The school I am placed at has a laptop cart that you can check-out. My teacher checked out the cart for the day and my students were able to do all kinds of fun technology lessons all day long. My student seemed really excited to use the powerpoint program and just the laptops in general. Only a few of the students in my class have computers at home so being able to use a laptop is a luxury to them. I loved seeing their excitment and motivation just because we were using laptops :) After completing their own Haiku poem line by line they completed an about the author section. By the way they responded, I don't think they have ever described themselves underneath and About the Author section. I learned so much more about my students after reading their about the author section. So many of them mentioned their dogs which made me laugh since I have a dog as well. This is a lesson that I really can't wait to take into my future classroom. My placement students LOVED it and they enjoyed sharing their poems with the class even more!
I have attached my sample Haiku Powerpoint Activity that I showed the kids.
