While reading Fletcher’s chapter about conflict it made me really think about how boring life could be. If everything went as expected and nothing ever went wrong life would really be boring. I know I never have a day in my life where something unexpected doesn’t happen, sometimes for the worst. My mother and I like to call it “the cloud”. I always blame her for passing on “the cloud” to me. It seems as if sometimes everything goes wrong or maybe in just a way that wasn’t expected, this is “the cloud” following me around. I hope I don’t pass it on!
Fletcher Ch. 8
The setting of a story really can give you an idea of many aspects of a story. The setting can help make a character come alive while also giving the reader a better understanding of where the story is taking place. After reading Fletcher’s chapter on setting, it made me see how the setting can be useful in a variety of ways. I never really thought about how the setting can help you understand why a character acts or is the way he/she is. The setting or home life of a student is a key aspect when trying to understand a student, so why wouldn’t the setting be a key aspect in understanding a character in a story?

My students both now and in the past have always taken pride in seeing their work 'published' or posted around the room. My currect placement teacher has taken this to a whole new level. First, she had her students type their color poems into an online book. The students were then able to choose a background color to illustrate the color they wrote about. She ordered the book and when it arrived the students could not keep their hands off of itl. They were overjoyed to see their work in an acutal hardback book. They truly felt like realy authors.
Since my students were so excited and motivated by the class color poem book, my teacher took it one step further. She found a website where each student can create their own book. She allows time in class for students to type, illustrate, and deocorate their online poetry book. The students seem so much more motivated to write and write "better" because they know their writing will be placed in the book. The students can then order their own book to be printed and mailed to their house. My only concern or hessitation about this is that some parents won't be able to afford the book. On the other hand, it's better to offer it than to not offer it at all. In the future, I would love to do fundraisers to order money for my students' books. I feel that this motivates children to become better writers both in class and out of class!
